Default Newbie Needs Help With Dealers BS!

Alright fellas, I did it. Bought a 2002 A4, 3.0 with all the goodies. Sport package, the works....

However the guy told me, "Yes of course it has Xenon headlights"

Low and behold, he was wrong.

I'm going back today at 7-8 to talk to him about a possible swap.

My question, can a dealer strait swap a Halogen system out of mine, and throw it into an A4 with Xenons, and swap back?

If not, what would be my options, bargaining chips, to bring back to the dealer?

Thanks fellas,

Bob

Default You could do a swap, but that's not the same as xenons coming from factory...

You'd loose the auto-levelling that way...

The only thing you could do really is perhaps demand some refund... You can of course do a xenon swap yourself (which can include the whole housings, or just getting coversion kits while keeping your existing housings)

Default Not straight swap. Xenon from factory also has autolevellers built into suspension and extra wiring.

Consensus here is that it is not worth it - you could get the autolevellers and fit them, but the wiring etc would be a killer. I looked into it a fair bit.

I didn't realise 3.0's were sold with Halogens - actually hadn't thought about it too much to be honest.

You need to go and argue it out with the dealer manager. It's a straightforward misrepresentation. The difficulty you'll probably have is that the contract for sale probably excludes any verbal representations made by the salesman - ie it's up to you to check the paperwork to make sure it is all there as what is there is actually what you are buying. But it's a pretty shoddy way to do business if you want to make wild claims and then rely on the customer not checking the details.

So your first stop is to go and argue it with them.

Good luck

PS - Have you got a copy of the ad? If you bought it recently is it still posted on the net? If that mentions the xenons that would help you.

Default In the 3.0 the HID lights are part of premium package.

The 1.8t has a seperate lighting package, but that is all bundled in the premium pkg on 3.0

Only the S4 has come with HID part of the base car.

Default Car doesn't seem to have all the goodies at all. It doesn't even appear to have premium package

I don't mean to sound cold, but it sounds like you should have done a lot more investigation about the car first and how all the different option pkgs work, and what was part of the option pkgs.

Car sounds like it's lacking a lot of options, or as you say goodies. Without premium pkg, I'd question what options it does have, or even it even has the sport pkg.

Default You got screwed....not much you can do now, except throw a fit.

on a positive note, The stock Halogens are much, much better then the previous versions. I don't mind my Halogens at all.

Default Its pretty obvious if you ask me. You should be able to tell the instant you turn them on

The ignition and warm up is unmistakable.

Sounds like the sales guy was a typical bonehead. He probably thought just because it had projector headlights that they were HID. Not true.

Default trust me, I know how to tell, but think of alllll of the people on here that have asked

if they have Xenons or not. Some people just don't know sh*t about cars.

Default It's a good question you asked. I assumed it was dark when he bought the car

which is a bad assumption. The startup of the HID light won't really help you during the day.

I suspect this dude got taken for a ride on this car.
