From thecarconnection.com and Autoweek:

Porsche Planning "Panamera" Four-Door?

A report from Auto Week magazine says that Porsche is planning a new four-door vehicle that will compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLS. Porsche, the magazine suggests, has copyrighted the name Panamera for the new model, which would be a 2008 addition to the Porsche lineup. A successor to the long-gone 928 two-door, the Panamera would be designed for four adults and could be spun off a new rear-drive platform that Porsche would share with Volkswagen. A 450-hp V-8 could be the powertrain for the Panamera, which will be shown in concept form at this fall's Frankfurt auto show.

Only time will tell.

Default Re: I love Porsche . . . (more)

And I think it's a good idea. They have the technology, the engines, the money and most importantly the loyal following.
Why let other car companies take their customers away when they have the means to do something about it? In business the saying remains true, "if you live in the past you are almost certain to become part of it." Porsche knows that and is continually looking to the future. Even if the self proclaimed "purists" don't like it. I think of them more as self proclaimed Porsche snobs.

Default As a dedicated Porschephile, I support Porsche's efforts to ensure their financial stability in...

the market (although Panamera doesn't have the coolest ring to it). Also, this isn't really news, they've been talking about finding another application for the Cayenne's V8s for a little while now, although as of last month, they said the weren't sure they were even going to do another model at all, so this is hardly a done deal. In any case, if it drives as well compared to other big sedans as the Cayenne does compared to other trucks, it'll probably be a lot of fun, and if it gives them the profits to get back into racing (wooo) or build another supercar, it's fine with me.

Default You make a good point about the loyal following- Like the Cayenne, this car targets people who...

already have a 911 or a Boxster in the garage, but they need an everyday car. As of 2 years ago, they had to turn to BMW, Audi or Mercedes, and they still do if they don't want a big truck. This way, Porsche fans can get many of the characteristics (and yes, brand appeal) that they like in their sports cars for their daily drivers.
