hmmm, I'm thinking of an 02,03 GTI VR6 (auto) for the replacement to the work beater
yeah, I know, I want stick, but for this job, I should have an auto....
or should I stay away from VAG cars all together...
In stock form, the GTI is really not very entertaining (I was bored of it after only a few months of owning it). Gas milage sucked for a car that small. Creaks, rattles, repairs, etc. drove me crazy. I traded it in June (with only 32K miles) for my B7 and was so happy to see it go.
I don't know what your needs are, but have you considered a Mazda3 5-door? It's not the fasted car, but it's way more fun to drive than a GTI, better gas milage, better reliability, cheaper to fix, better looking (IMHO), and you can find them wiht leather, nav and HID.
The VR6 (at least the '00) was over-weight and under-sprung.
If I were going to buy a GTI, I'd get a 1.8T with few options (versus a loaded VR6)
just my $.02

12V Vr6s had a 5spd manual.. In 02 I guess when they went to the 24V they put in a 6spd.
