Default I wouldn't get the GTI anyway...

If its for work, I imagine you'll keep it pretty stock and also not want to have to fix it much.

In stock form, the GTI is really not very entertaining (I was bored of it after only a few months of owning it). Gas milage sucked for a car that small. Creaks, rattles, repairs, etc. drove me crazy. I traded it in June (with only 32K miles) for my B7 and was so happy to see it go.

I don't know what your needs are, but have you considered a Mazda3 5-door? It's not the fasted car, but it's way more fun to drive than a GTI, better gas milage, better reliability, cheaper to fix, better looking (IMHO), and you can find them wiht leather, nav and HID.

Default Those were the 1.8, not VR6, no?

Also had a firmed up suspension, etc.

The VR6 (at least the '00) was over-weight and under-sprung.

If I were going to buy a GTI, I'd get a 1.8T with few options (versus a loaded VR6)

just my $.02

Default No gti vr6 in an auto ever

The 1.8ts came in a 4 sped auto 00 and 01.. Then in 02 went to a 5spd tip.. Along with always having a 5spd manual.

12V Vr6s had a 5spd manual.. In 02 I guess when they went to the 24V they put in a 6spd.
