Do I need to give a bill of sale to a buyer of a motor vehicle in NYS?
My car is currently for sale. I have never sold a car before so just trying to get an idea of what I need to do. The DMV website says a title and a bill of sale is needed for a private sale??

It would help when they go to register the car, the main reason for a bill of sale........
is so that the state and county / local government can collect their sales tax money.
If you put the price too low, they may hassle the new owner and you. Don't forget, DMV is a state sponsered tax collection agency. It's their job to make life difficult and squeeze as much money as they can out of people.
Don't forget to write "As Is, Where Is" on the Bill Of Sale.
