Default In need of some help/advice (moving to CT)

I'm potentially moving back east after 10 years in Seattle, for work.

Looking for some advice on where in southern ct to live that'll have:

close to train (as I'll be making trips into NYC
decent nightlife/socialscene etc...
housing market's the toughest question. looking for a 3 br. 2 ba 2 car garage deal and am tryin to get a feel for what 400/500/600k gets you?

Looking at:
Bridgeport
New Cannan
Wilton
Fairfield
Stamford
Norwalk etc...

originally from Westchester and have no desire to move back there so CT is the next choice.

thanks for the help/advice/feedback.

Default a little help...

Bridgeport (inexpensive, decent night life, can be a little sketchy ie: watch your car at night)

New Cannan (expensive, little night life, pretty safe)

Wilton (expensive, no night life, very safe)

Fairfield (moderately priced, mediocore night life, fairly safe)

Stamford (IIRC, similar to fairfield)

Norwalk (expensive, i don't know much about nightlife here, pretty safe)

As for pricing, there isn't going to be much for less than 600k especially in wilton, new canaan)

good luck

Default a bit more info... & thanks...

Being 32 and single the important thing is for me to find a nice neighborhood, but one with some nightlife.. I can see it'll be a challenge to startover on the whole social life thing, b/c although work is important, it's not everything to me....

any more advice would be appreciated.

thx,

Default You haven't checked real estate prices in this area lately have you?..

Bridgeport is def. doable in that price range, but make sure you find the somewhat "decent" area. You might have to do some searching in Fairfield to find those specs in that price range, but it is possible. New Canaan and WIlton are def. out of the question. Very easliy talking on $800,000+. Depending on the area in Norwalk you can find something. If you have kids I wouldn't want them in Norwalk or Bridgeport school system. Stamford probably has the best option for nightlife. Most of those towns have train stations in them.

Default yeah i hear ya dude

Your best bet is somewhere in fairfield/stamford/bridgeport. I would probably start searching in that order. I wish i could give you a better idea of prices, but i'm really not sure. Best bet is to start searching online and such. That being said, it's not going to be easy making the move, there isn't THAT much to do in southern CT. To give you a better idea, my best weekends are those that I spend in NYC (and i live in the danbury area). (hope this helps a little more)

Default $600k will get you a nice 2bdrm condo w/ a garage in Stm, but not a house...

anyway, i'm single and 33 and rent in greenwich.. i don't see anything wrong with that in this real estate market.. i'm banking on the fact the market will fall 10-20% in the next 2-3 yrs or so..

Default You can do $500-600k houses in glenbrook or springdale

<center><img src="http://homepics.realtor.com/image1/http/norwalk/listings/large/067/98287998.jpg"></center><p>
500k house in the picture in stamford.

You'd have better luck in Norwalk or Fairfield where you can still find houses around 500k.

Glenbrook will get you a 3 bedroom house on .1 acres and 1500sq feet.

Apartments are going to be bigger in the same price range.
