Anyone know what NJ police will let you slide with on front-side window tints?

I had a 1990 Audi 90 that had 100% clear tint on the front side windows that the previous owner installed because of vision problems. I didn't even know it was there until a cop pulled me over, peeled it back and said "there ya go...tints". I was like..."you're kidding right?". He said "nope, here's your ticket".

In March a town cop let me go with warning. Two weeks later I was
pulled over by a bergen county cop. He had no interest in even talking to me. He just shoved the ticket in my face and walked away. Think it cost me about $60. The odd thing is before getting pulled over twice within two weeks I had never been stopped during the year and a half I had the tint. But now it is off the front windows.
