So I go to get the new winter beater inspected today...

And I end up almost ripping the inspection guy's head off. I pull up, everything's fine, car's running normal, no CEL's, perfect. So I wait in line until my turn. My turn comes up, so I pull forward, the guy tells me to shut the car off and go wait. So I go wait, thinking "this should be easy". By the time my car gets to the end of the line, the guy's putting a "rejected" sticker on it. So I say "What? rejected? For What? He says "you have an emissions code". So I say "BS, there's not CEL, and I just had the car checked out." So after a little arguing I figure there's nothing I can do about it so I get in the car and get ready to leave pissed off. Here's the kicker, I start the car and the CEL is on. So now I'm REALLY pissed. I just came back from 2 consecutive weekend trips where I put over 2000 miles on it and it ran perfectly, and now conveniently RIGHT AT THE INSPECTION facility the CEL comes on????!?!?! Gimme a break! So basically I went back to the end of the line and accused the bastards of intentionally causing a CEL.

not that i am sticking up for them, but if all the person did is plug into the obd2 port - that....

will not turn on the light, the system has to see a fault in it. now i know i alway have an issue with the lamborghini's where the rediness codes will not set and in turn fail nys inspections, this is also true for porsche 993.

Killington for the weekend, way to crowded on sat., and sun. was ok, but getting pretty thin by mid-day.

Well the thing is this...

I know this will sound strange. But did you ever go to start a car, and if you don't quite hold the ingnition turned long enough it might start and sputter for a second before it starts to idle? That's what he did. He turned to key for like a split second, the car sputtered maybe twice (which obviously read in the computer as a misfire since that's what the code they told me means), and then it idled fine. That must have been just enough to throw a code. I just think it's bull**** because the dude was in such a rush and busy listening to his i-pod that he could have cared less. Now I have to find a shop to reset the code so I can go back and get my sticker. Anyone have an vag-com equivalent for a Jeep?
