Default 1996 A6 Quattro problems Please help me

Hey

Just bought this car and got totally screwed. Its got 150k miles on it, i test drove it and it ran fine but i needed a car fast so i bought it for $3200. Well About a month after buying it the check engine light came on so i brought it over to midas and they checked that and said that it was giving miss fire codes on cylders 4, 5, and 6. They said that the car needed to be tunned up ( replace the spark plugs and wires they said) all would come out to aver $500.that it wasnt
A few days after this i was at my friends house and his dad was looking at my car and noticed that it had no oil so he added some and also noticed that he thought there was oil in the radiator fluid. So i drove it over to midas again and they said they would give me a oil change and they checked the radiator fluid and said it was just slug so they also flushed the radiator.
After this my dad and some of the people i work told me to bring it to a Audi specialist in town so i did. They said that it didnt need a tune up and that this code was normal in the 1996 but they never really gave me a reason for it or tell me how much it would cost to fix. they did say that i needed to get the timing done wich would cost around $600 and that there was oil in the radiator fluid and this might be because the oil cooler needed to be replaced. they said they would give me a estimate after new years. This isnt even the start.
Bacicly i payed them 40$ to look at my car and give a estimate. When i go down to get the estimate they tell me they need to look it over again . . . . for another 40$. fed up with these guys. But alright so that was about 2 weeks ago and i havent addressed any of these issues but the cars check engine light came on again and when im driving the car will start to buck and loose power. ill pull the car over and turn it off and then turn it back on and it will be fine. but just today i was driving home from work and the car almost completely lost power i was struggling to get up a small hill so i pulled over and noticed that the engine was smoking, i looked at the temperature and it said it was normal. So i turned the car off and opened the hood and found that the radiator fluid was spraying everywhere and it was dripping down from the bottom of my car.
Im totally lost on what the problem. nobody is giving me strait ansures on the problem. I live in upstate NY around the pougkeepsie area. If anyone lives around hear or knows anything please respond and help me get this car working again. I need it for work and i love it

I posted this in another section and they told me that maybe someone around the NY/NJ area could help me. My exact location is New Paltz, Thats right off the thru-way. If anyone could offer any help that would be amazing.

Thanks, Max

Default i would like to say coilpacks for the misfires but i'm not sure if the '96 use coils or wires.

if it has coils just pick some up from the dealer and you should be fine. now the coolant issue i can't even begin to imagine what that is, sorry. good luck though.

Default Hmm, the oil in the coolant thing mayyy be bad

Only thing i can think of is maybe the head gasket because that would cause coolant to leak into the block, the vice versa could happen as well i guess.

If i were you, i would start looking for the coolant leak. They do sell coolant system pressure testers that cap on the to expansion tank with the proper adapter. Try the pressure test when the car is warm as well as cold. I say this because i had a leak at the seams of the tank and it would only start leaking when warm.

Best of luck

Well the one thing that the Audi specialist said that it was very rare to have a head gasket blown and that he was almost possitive that it was because the oil cooler was bad and that that was the only other place that oil would enter the coolant.

Default why didnt you have this "audi specialist/family friend" look the car over before you bought it?

If the coolant hasn't ever been changed it may not be oil...was there a "slick" in the coolant? A blown cylinder head is often a cause of cooant oil mix. was there coolant in the oil?

Default if you can get it down to ct.......

i'll take care of it...but for $134per hr. were/are the misfires sporadic? i'd question them being "normal."
