Default TDI's in our region

so I really like the idea of a B8 A4 TDi avant for my next ride. But here's the question: is the reason we dont get many new diesels here just the "market" -- americans not liking diesels? or is it that the low sulfur diesel fuel is just not available here? -- or is it that the euro diesels dont like that low sulfur fuel? help me understand this please!

Default most diesles were pulled due to fuel and EPA and acceptance..

keep in mind the US idea of an oilburner is a smelly truck and slimy filling stations. This has changed.

Lets not forget the OLDMOBILE 260 V8 deisel...most of them blew.

Ultra low sulfur diesel is readily available....so you can check that off the list.

Default So -- the fuel IS available, and the german engines CAN run on what we have?

-- then why cant you buy a MB bluetec here in NY?

Why did the toureg v10 go away?

I'm still not getting it

Default The Touareg V10 didnt go away....I drive one.

The V10 arrived in the US in 2004 (with all other Touaregs) and went away for 2005....returning in 2006 (my year). The V10 was here for the 2007MY and 2008 will be the last year they are made. After 2008, VW is switching to a V6 TDI. On an interesting sidenote...ONLY the 2006 V10 is 50 state legal....most others are 42 state legal.

Default TDI's took a temporary hideatous b/c of increased emission standards

Our gov't keeps on increasing the cleaniness standards for passenger car diesel engines making them much more difficult to get 50 state certification and also added a fair amount of cost to the car becuase of the very complex emission standards.

Meanwhile commercial trucks don't even need saftey inspections -- they attepmeted this once and it would have been "too expensive" to get the trucks up to code. The fleet operators would have been put of biz.
