Going back from Summit at 12 taking a North Jersey Exit that I won't mention.
Pulled over...
Officer: License and registration please .You know why I am pulling you over?
Me: Yes, I was in a hurry trying to get home probably going a little faster than usual(my sense of guilt about speeding is for good reasons 99.99% of the time).
Officer: Nope, you were talking on the phone and your left brake light is out.
Me: Officer, you have the wrong car.
Officer: I saw the light of your cell phone close to your face talking and your brake light is out.
Me: Officer I am having a smoke, I just lighted up at the intersection and obviously still smoking. Don't know about the light.
Officer: Ok that makes sense. Brake light is still out.
Me: running a check on the B5> crap ! you `re right ! Thanks I had no idea.
Officer: No big deal. Get it fixed ASAP.
Me: Thanks officer, have a safe night.
Officer: You too, take care

I'd never admit any guilt. Boonton cop I knew told me they would pull people over randomly and tell
them "I clocked you going xx MPH". When the driver replied "I couldn't have been going faster than yy" (which was usually over the limit), the cop would give them a ticket for that amount since they just admitted their guilt.
