oil change...
I brought the car to a local dealership in Montreal for oil change after break-in (1300 mi). They simply refused to do it althought I was shelling cash out for it (non-schedule maintenance). They say it's not recommanded by Audi and that's a special oil with more additives for break-in in the engine and it can't be changed before 5000 mi.
Any comment?

there are stories of those who have done it earlier with no problems
And there are also many stories of dealers and Audi saying that the oil is not special as there are quotes (like your dealer) otherwise.
If the oil is synthetic then I would think 5K is OK.

Sure. You can go the 5k mile mark, but I seriously doubt that the oil that comes...
in the engines is any more special than an off-the-shelf Castrol.
Think about it. They are trying to increase the time in between each service change. This will cost them LESS money over time. They were going from 5k services to 10k services on the B6.
Also, They were going to 5k for the first service instead of the 1,500 or 2k that it was previously.
regardless, if audi was REALLY worried about the break-in oil, then they would supply it for their crate motors. But when we did my engine swap, some Motul went in and the damn thing is running sweet.
Also, the blocks are made of nikasil. VERY difficult and resistant to wear. If anything, the special "break-in" oil might actually try to scrub the walls instead of protecting them? Bleh, that's probably rubbish. But I still don't buy the special break-in oil. Like I said, if it was really that big of a deal, then they would supply it for engine swaps since they would probably not want to buy ANOTHER new engine due to the LACK of break-in oil.

I changed my oil to mbile one at 1200 miles on my B^ s4 Buy back and it wasn't an issue..
io'm driving the replacement right now. in fact before i recieved myreplacement i drove my old one with the new tranny and engine. i asked if audi sent special oil for the new motor and they laughed. asked what special oil and when i spoke about the "secret sp[ecial break in oil," they went and called aoa just to make sure and they said the car has normal oil, that they had originaly thought that rs6 oil was in the motor, but that if this were true they would be putting that in the car now. also i understand that the rs6 oil actually may be a motul oil sold througgh audi, does anyone have info on this?

That wouldn't surprise me. Motul makes some great stuff.
But I'm in complete agreement with the call on the break-in oil. my tech laughed too, said they were told to use the barreled Castrol they use for everything else. And this was straight from techline.

re: Different oil for RS6
When I picked up my S4 along with all the freebies I was to be given a litre of castrol oil (non-synthetic) to have on-hand to top up the oil if necessary. There was also a bloke waiting to pick up his new RS6 and he went through the same person as me at the dealership, so he had to wait until I was finished. So the fleetmanager calls someone over to get the oil for both of us, the instructions were very explicit, to get synthetic for the RS6 and non-synthetic for my S4. I therefore presume that the RS6 comes with sythentic, I am unsure if it is Motul.
