Who Lies About What They Paid?
I hope I don't annoy too many by stating that I think a lot of folks lie about what they paid so that they seem like master negotiators or that their luxo purchase was justified by the deal being too good to pass up.
I am personally a fool. I paid Sticker for my 00 S4 (but at least it was the first at the dealership), Sticker for my 02 S6, only 1K off for my 04 Cab, but at least I practically stole my RS6. So I must be the king of the chumps. My only comfort is that my dealer kisses my ***, as they surely don't want to lose a sucker like me!
By the way, I always lie about what mine cost, I usually say "low forties" so people don't sh*t their pants about me driving a $50K+ vehicle. I don't want people to think I'm rich, which I am not.
When I started by insurance business, I made a conscious descision to be as efficient as possible. Most of the other insurance agency owners I knew were stuck at a certain income level no matter how big their agency due to the cost of employees needed to service large books of business. I decided to specialize and stay small enough to be under the competition's radar.
It's worked well for me, but there are downsides. I never get any vacations and sometimes I have to deal with the terror of financial ruin when things go wrong (and things always go wrong).
However, I have finally decided to part with some of my silver and hire a full timer so that we can finally go on some vacations and maybe I can start golfing again.
Sometimes it's nice to be the first one to have something and to get trreated like royalty for spending the extra coin.
