Changing mirrors

I want to change my aluminum mirror housings to painted ones, for 2 reasons: I want to tone down the look, and I don't want my car to be butchered by someone stealing them.

How do you get the housings off and on the car? Is it hard? Can I switch the internals, or should I buy complete mirror/housing units? Since I'm doing this, what are the (euro) choices for internals, ala blind spot, auto dimming, etc.

You really can only buy entire units....

You need to remove the door panels to get them off and yes you can get just the housings.

For the S4 is depends on your VIN, I couldn't just get the housings. But, since he.......

basically wants A4 housings, I'm sure he could just get the housings.

I'm sure they are a hell of a lot cheaper as well.

Just trade with a B6 A4...

they are tons of A4 peeps that would take those off your hands + cash for a trade. Assuming you have a car color is the same as the A4 guys.

Pop your mirror glass off and there should be a couple torx screws

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/17977/dsc01206.jpg"></center><p>holding the housing on. Take those off and you should be able to wiggle off the housings without taking off the whole assembly.

Well, this is the way it is on the B5 so I dont think it would be much diff on the B6.

This picture is the inside of a B5 housing. You can see 2 torx screws, one of the top left, one on the top right, and another that is out of view below the the screw on the right.
