Isn't that how we all learned to drive stick?
No offense to anybody, but all this talk about launch techniques has resulted in a return to some variation of the old "smoother is faster" theme. I'm old (relatively...37 here), and I would never dream of revving up the engine and dumping the clutch, or any of the other forms of abuse that many of the guys here subject their cars to on what seems like a regular basis. It's not really a money issue, since I usually don't keep cars long enough to wear out a clutch. It's more that is just seems somehow akin to using a fine Global chef's knife to chop firewood. It will work, but why waste precision engineering on a brutal task.
It's just more that...well....I can feel proud of a perfect quick launch if it's smooth and efficient. It's its messy and loud and brutal, well...no matter how fast it is, I don't get much satisfaction from it. I guess that means i'm getting...m..mmm...mm..mmature. (God, that's hard to say!)
