The picture sucks but there is only one groove even remotely visible. They looked like slicks. They guy just laughed like are you serious? It was pretty funny. The contis suck either way though.

Since those tires you show really haven't seen a track day so far, they haven't had a lot of heat cycles that would break down the rubber compounds and just might be ideal for the occasion. A fresh tire with full tread often suffers from "chunking" where big chunks of the tread can get yanked off when the tires are hot. Less tread will lessen that effect which is why track tires are often "shaved" down to less than half their original tread depth.
