Default ATTN: AlanL do you think that these tires will pass@ Thunderhill?

Took these Pics of Sia's Tires the other day. He wants to know if you think that they will be good enough for the track.

Stock Conti's 14k miles..

Default Thanks Ben. Alan, please look at edges. The 2nd pic might be of the front tires, so they're not as

bad. Apparently, Audi of Van Nuys forgot to rotate them at 5k, so Ben and I rotated them at 10k (when I realized my tread was getting horrible in the front).

Anyway, will the bald edges pass at thunderhill? Thanks.

The picture sucks but there is only one groove even remotely visible. They looked like slicks. They guy just laughed like are you serious? It was pretty funny. The contis suck either way though.

Default Cool, so besides tread and stuff that can roll around in the car, what are other "serious"

things to have done to the car before the event?

Default Just try to get a cool down lap. The last time I tracked I didn't get one...

and had a long brake pedal for about three days they just overheated so bad. That was with the crappy 1.8T brakes though. I'm not sure you would experience that with the S4.

Default Ok...but in term of prepping the car..anything else? I know the list, but it's mostly common sense

for what to have checked, like brakes, fluids, etc.

I've never done anything special. These cars can handle the abuse pretty well. Just have fun!

Default I agree with Stampchez - no problem. I have taken S03's out on Thill with far less tread.

I will admit that on a reeaallly wet track no tread is an exercise in traction challenged driving, but I would have been fine on a dry day.

Since those tires you show really haven't seen a track day so far, they haven't had a lot of heat cycles that would break down the rubber compounds and just might be ideal for the occasion. A fresh tire with full tread often suffers from "chunking" where big chunks of the tread can get yanked off when the tires are hot. Less tread will lessen that effect which is why track tires are often "shaved" down to less than half their original tread depth.
