Default Downpipe Install Today...

Pending on UPS delivery the downpipes will be put on today. For those of you that have them, any tips or instructions I should follow.

Default Yes, make sure the car is cool!!!

Also, I assume your talking about the milltek downpipes. There are no instructions that come with them. The only tip I can really give you is to remember to move the brackets that hold the pipes into the upward position.

Are you doing the install? Make sure you have an o2 wrench, it's absolutely key. Otherwise, getting the pre-cat o2's in are going to be a bitch.

Good luck, and let us know how you like 'em!

Default Thanks for the Tips...

O2 wrench, I take it you can buy that at the local automotive store. Also Bob @ Strat mentioned loosening engine mounts, was that necessary on yours? Thanks for the help and I will let you all know how the Milltek downpipes sounds with the non-res catback.

Default Basically, it's a o2 socket. Your going to need a good 2 ft of extension to reach the pre o2's.

Also, I had my axles out when we put the pipes in, but none of the engine mounts had to be loosened.

As far as I know, a good extended socket wrench, an o2 adapter, and some mechanic gloves are key. The exhaust manifold is going to be HOT HOT HOT if you drive anywhere anytime before the install.

Other than pushing the hanging bracket in the upward position, I can't think of anything else. Just take your time and be patient.

Also, once your done with the install, take it for a ride for about 20 minutes. Get the exhaust nice and hot. Then, let it cool for about 30 minutes and get in there with your socket wrench and tighten those manifold bolts on the DP flange. I'd go ahead and tighten the o2's one more time too just to be sure. This way, you can set all the bolts after they have expanded due to the heat.

Default You can do that too, but they are going to have to be removed regardless.

We already had them removed for obvious reasons. But when we were installing them, we put the downpipes in first, and then put the pre o2's in.

It really isn't that difficult. They are accessible from the rear of the engine bay. On the left and right side of the intake hoses and block. get a light, and look down. (remove the plastic covers) You should see the holes right in the downpipes.

ALSO: One more tip: Take your finger and with a rag run along the inside of all of the o2 holes. There is some weld-dust that sits in the holes and can make threading them a bitch. I'd recommend pre-threadingj just to make sure that they fit properly.

Default Bob @ Strat Said 3 Hours for Install?

Doesn't seem nearly that entailed... Maybe I am mistaken. Who knows. I guess time will tell.

Default I can see it taking a few hours. Your going to have to fidget with the dp's to get them out..

and then the new ones back in. The axle is going to be in the way. We did it in 5 minutes, but again, we had the majority of the hardware underneath the car removed. I think JD's took an entire weekend to get installed, but they had some issues with the design I believe.

Default You could do it in 3 hours....

provided you know how to do it.... I was the first non-strat-done install and I had some issues that pretty much everyone has touched on, changing the tranny hangers etc....
