Beggars can't be choosers, and since I bought off the lot . . .
I'm a super beggar. But after ducking out to pick up my '05 S4 Avant today I couldn't help it but wonder about why Audi doesn't make steering wheel audio controls standard on the S4. I'll be the first to admit that I have not seen their multi-function wheel (maybe it isn't "sporty" enough) but I kept reaching for the wheel to adjust the volume. And the strangest thing is that my last car DIDN'T have wheel controls either. It just feels like the S4 is screaming for them.
Is it just me? Does anyone who has them feel disappointed in the other characteristics of the wheel?
(By the way - I freaking LOVE this car.)

If the sport wheel (wheel itself, not the interior (airbag, etc.)) is shaped better than the multi-function wheel, I am all for them dumping the audio controls (I am giving them the benefit of the doubt that they couldn't keep the same shape AND have the audio controls.)
And frankly, it's just because I love my audio control-less wheel. Very reminiscent of my S2000. Very sporty and very stable. And manageable under any cornering circumstances.
If the answer is they "can't", I am satisfied. If the answer is they "don't" (provide the multi-function wheel with the "sporty" exterior), I'd be bummed. At $50,000+, don't we deserve both?

I was a begger...
and the car I bought off the lot had the multifuntion steeting wheel. Obviously the best deal would have been the three spoke with controls like M3 wheel I put on my 330i, but it isn't bad. Over all, I like it, but you still have to move your hands to reach the buttons.
