Home-brew 100 octane gas
Anyone here try this? My next door neighbor Eric is mixing Xylene with 92 octane fuel from the pump to get 100 octane gas. $41 for 5 liters of Xylene. I guess it goes a long way. The folks at the local Sherwin Williams industrial supply store have gotten to know Eric (and his wife who winds up getting to pick up his chemicals) pretty well. This stuff is also apparently used for brewing crystal meth, so the store has to keep close track of who gets the stuff.
(Eric has a 600-HP Mitusbishi 3000GT that he has recently been taking down to Pacific Raceways for street-car drag nights. His last time out he got something under 13 and figures if he was any good he could get it under 12. Sadly for him, it has taken a toll on his oldish transmission. A rebuilt--and more robust--transmission is on the way from a shop back east.)
It's not so much that I'm going to do this -- I'm just curious as to how prevalent this kind of thing is among y'all. On our local forum, folks were asking about stations that serve 100+ octane from a pump. The nearest one to us is 40 minutes out (although it is in the general direction of PR).

I have helped with Sunnoco 93 + Toluene Mixtures....
its good stuff. I dont think its quite as good as 100oct pump gas but its pretty damn close. I thought about it for a while, but came to my senses.

Do the race gas mixes from the pump have lead in them? Isn't that bad for something? The catalytic coverters maybe? I did not read your link yet, since as you noted, it's more than I need to know!
