Default Right front brake generates waaaaay more dust than left front.

As most of you know, I was tagged by a bus on my right front a week-and-a-half ago and I'm running on my spare. Can anybody think of a reason that this dust would be a result of the collision? The car accelerates, corners, and brakes perfectly, and I tightened the lug nuts (or bolts, as they are) myself w/the supplied wrench--they're tight.

Default see a dealer immediately, prolly an increase in pressure on the pad/rotor

which in turn would then result in slight rubbing of the rotor more of the time, thus,if your getting more dust on one side vs. the other, you've got an issue. better to fix it now and have it looked at than wait.

maybe nothing major, but I'd say you might have undue pad wear.

just a thought.

sorry to hear you had a ding with a bus ;( teh suck!

Default Does the right rotor have a blue-ish appearance to it?

and the left rotor?

Default something that has bent or provides more pressure on the retainer springs of the brake pad

could be a number of things, but from what you've wrote,

IF your car got nudged or whatever, and now that you have an undue amount of dust, which would deem one to conclude there is extra pressure or pinching (although not strong enough to effect driving) it's worth having someone look at it.

if it's not (which we hope). you're good, if you are wrong, fixing it now is key.

but then I'm not saying anything you haven't already thought about.

I guess I'd say you never know, but I'd rather know. ya know?

Default No, neither one of the rotors is blue.

If one of the calipers is dragging, it must be *very* slight.

Default Yeah, sorry, that sounded like a stupid question...

...but I figured that since the brake assembly is mounted on the same hub as the wheel (which took the hit), even if something is bent, the rotor and caliper would still be in the same position relative to each other. Now that I think about it a little more though, I could have easily had something get knocked out of whack.

Default Blue rotor means it's been overheated...

suggestive of a dragging pad. Cause of the dragging pad could be a bent caliper carrier, faulty caliper, etc., etc.

Based on what he's saying, the rotor isn't blue...so odds are the pad isn't dragging, and even if it was touching just slightly (but not enough to overheat the rotor), it wouldn't produce much dust.

I would pull the wheel and caliper, and look at the inside of the rotor, and check the inside pad for signs of glazing/overheating. Maybe the inside pad is dragging, but only heating the inside rotor face enough to turn blue? I doubt it, but it's worth looking at.

Default hmm. I was thinking you would definitely feel a pad dragging bad enough to overheat the rotor.

but what the hell do I know ;-)
