VIR: The First Day... (Video inside!)
OMG. As some of you know, JD, Allan, and I were at VIR today. And it was a freakin' BLAST!!! Even Hurricane Charlie couldn't stop us from having fun!!!
First of all, I'd like to give a HUGE thanks to Roger and Leith Audi of Raleigh, NC. Roger is a tech at Leith Audi, and he drove the Roadside Assistance car to the meet to serve as a tech crew for us. His expertise on S4's is truly remarkable. Oh, and he's a great guy too. ;-)
We started off in the morning with some serious rain. We ran a few sessions in the rain, but it was hard to take it to the max because of the conditions. Still, the car was a dream in the wet. The brakes, acceleration, suspension...everything is so perfectly mated on this car, I don't know why on earth I was ever contemplating getting a coilover kit, even if it WAS STaSIS ;-).
In the afternoon the weather cleared up pretty good and we were finally able to take it to the max. The only thing that you might notice in the video is that the tires LOVE to scream in the turns in the dry. In the wet, they just push, but in the dry they were able to keep some decent grip. They still squeal and get a little greasy at high-speed turns, but they are still great to learn on. Better to start at the basics and work yourself up. I can't WAIT to see what this car performs like with some better tires on it.
Anyway, here's the video that I know some of you want to see. :-D The first few shots are in the rain, and the later shots are in the dry. I've got some more video of JD and a friend of ours, and I'll post them later on too.

PS - After my first day on the track (EVER), my instructor has decided to go ahead and sign me off. So tomorrow I'm on my own! Can't wait!!! :-D

Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
Glad to hear that you had fun and you have basically discovered what I have been saying after each of the 7 events I have participated in with a B6 S4 - off the shelf bolt on aftermarket parts have a *LOT* of engineering to answer to if they think they can replace what Audi sent out the door in the first place.
I am not convinced that anyone participating in this forum is capable of driving one of these cars to the maximum of what Audi has designed into it in OEM form. Especially me - the more I know about how well this package is integrated to begin with the less certain I am about how well I measure up to it's full potential.
I don't doubt for a minute that there are tweaks that can be done to the OEM B6 S4 that will improve it's potential out on the track, but none of us on this forum could use those tweaks well enough to outperform a true professional driver behind the wheel of this car in totally stock form.
Best mod investment in town - upgrade the nut behind the wheel. There are no limits....
