Default Buy 05 S4 now, wait for facelift or buy something else?

Hello,

I am in the market for a new car and looked at the S4 and I find it to be a very good compromise of sport, comfort and practicality. I am just concerned by the fact that I read that the A4/S4 are supposed to get a facelift very shortly and honestly, I would hate buying a new 45-50K car and see it outdated a couple of months later.

Do you guys know when the "new" A4/S4 is supposed to arrive on our shores?

What else in that price range have you considered? (used or new).

Thanks,

Wassup

Default its a catch 22, unless you're buying a brand new model; stfa for answers, but...

you'll find mostly speculation about the facelift and new body style a4. see below for discussion on s4 vs. m3 vs. c55 (the bimmer and benz both have new body styles coming out within the next two years or less, i dont think anyone's really sure whats going on with the audi) IMO there's no other sport sedan in this price range that offers a package as complete as the s4's

Default The new A4 goes on sale in Europe in December. As for America and the S4, it is a big who knows.

From what I hear the soonest you would be able to buy the B7 S4 in North America is around August of next year. A whole year away. No doubt it will be nice, but so are the current S4's. They don't seem old looking and outdated to me. If circumstances are in your favor, meaning you don't really need a new car right away, or you happen to be in the car market when a brand new model is coming out, great. But, I myself wouldn't hold off on a car purchase because a newer model is coming out in a year or so. A couple of months would be different. There will always be new models in the works.

Cars aren't really like consumer electronics or computers in that you'll get twice as much new functionality for what you paid for the old model. The current S4 is awesome and still will be after the new ones comes out. The current styling will age quicker than usual since the new Audi family has the gaping grill however.

If you get a real kick out of new car design attention, like when the TT first came out, then wait. To me it's not that important, which is why I ordered a 2005, due to arrive next month. I might hold onto this one until the B8 design comes out in 5 or six years. Or whatever grabs me then, who knows.

Default b7 due in december?

what the hell, the s4 is only in the beginning of its 2nd year and they are already goign to release the new b7 a4?

if so wouldn't then the 2005's s4 be greatly discounted?

i know that when i go down to pick my car up in october and haggle with the price, i will bring this to their attention. ALthough i am not gonna be happy with the b7's driving around...

Default The upcoming update is still on the B6 platform

According to the sales manager at Audi of Park Ave in Manhattan (1/2 AoA corporate-managed paying for the high rent, 1/2 local dealer - Zumbach), the 2005.5 B6 update will affect the A4 as well as the S4. From what I've been told, when the car hits the US shores on Feb-Mar, the car will sport all new body panels, only the windshield will be carried over.

I've also been told that the order sheet for this car will become available in early/mid Nov., I've got an allocation slot reserved at another dealer, who also reiterated what Audi of Park Ave told me. Too bad Audi of Park Ave won't budge on full MSRP...

As far as credibility goes, around March, Audi of Park Ave had a A8L W12 6.0 prominently on display, on a turntable... it may be hard to believe, I wish I had cam phone... can you NYC'er's who've seen the car at the dealer vouch for me ? (I think it was northern blue w/ 19" RS6-like wheels or something)

Default I'm in the same situation as you...

I love the current version of the S4 and I was planning to get into a 05 around this time, but i've decided to wait. And it's not easy, it's a little painful

I've decided to wait until 2/05, the time I've been told by semi-creible sources when the redesign comes to the US.

Other cars I've considered (some cars that are/are not comparable to the S4)...
-upcoming SLK350
-E46 M3
-FX45, can be bought at fire sale prices around the NYC metro area
-BMW 545i, if it didn't have a cheap interior

It's interesting that Audi is concerned about BMW, and withou a doubt BMW is a first class outfit. But I bet Audi is losing a lot of sales to the Infiniti G35 and Acura TL. Both of these cars have at least fifty more HP than the A4 and both have outstanding quality, and both can be purchased for a little over $30K.

So if Audi doesn't want to lose market share they had better improve their quality, and increase the HP of the A4 to at least 280 to keep pace with their competition from Japan.
