Default Back from VIR and I'm a grinning track junkie! :-D

Drove today (sun) for the very first time, had to buy a longsleeve T at the track to wear, borrowed JD's Helmet for the first two runs as he wasn't running in the rain since his HRE's were holding water and causing vibrations. Ended up buying it from him later in the day as it is new and fits, he left early and having it allowed me two more runs to hone my skills. The instructor was very good even allowed him to drive my car in a faster class with me as passenger so he could show me the proper line, running with porsche GT3's, Turbo X50 which was incredible even in the rain, about 150+ on the back stretch with a 100yd rooster tail.

Drove four sessions for a total time of 2hrs able to acheive 118-123mph on the back straight, 80-90mph in the esses.

For all those in doubt this car does not need suspension work of any kind or brakes either! I ran at about 65% of the cars ability, Wes was up around 85-90% on stock rims and conti's with 10000 miles+ on them and each run just blistered the field 125-130+ in the straights 105+ in the esses. With only two passing zones because of te rain Wes was still able to pass 2-3 cars per lap. At a length of 3.2mi we could follow Wes around most of the track just by the sound either the exhaust note or when in the turns the squealing wheels.

Wes was an intimidating sight coming up from behind like the devil or grim reaper, the only out was to move over signal for him to pass and watch the blur go buy followed by the exhaust shockwave, no keeping up, I offer my complete capitulation.

I'd recommend for anyone who is thinking of buying suspension/brakes/track tires of any kind to first wait for you to reach 5000+miles to allow the engine and trans to loosen up then do a drag strip day $50 or track day $250a day+ on stock rims and tires with instructors and let this car show you how really good it has been engineered from the factory.I ran on my 19" RS6 rims at 35psi and felt just fine, my instructor kept commenting on how relaxed I was for my first time and later how smooth I got although I flubbed some corners now and again. I was going to do coilovers and maybe BBK but now I will put the money into track time. If I ever get to Wes's level of driving stock is still fine, I don't think Suspension or brake mods would or could help me that much to improve my skill, probably would give me a false sense of security and may even be detramental. Better track pads might be my only upgrade?

Wes ran his brakes hard and only a little steam came off them at the end of the run although he needs new pads after the weekend, remember they also have 20k+ miles on them 2 times at the rock, 2 weekend drives and many short stoplight kills as well as VIR. Mine have still 3/8" and never faded in any of my runs and I am at 10200mi.

More Vids and pics to come, Wes will be back tomorrow to answer all your questions.

Default The yellow Golf GTI VR6 Turbo spun in front of me in turn 3 putting a layer of grass and mud accross

the apex for many laps, took him to the inside of turn 4 before he got back on the track and tried to keep going but was tossing mud, finally turned on hazards and allowed me to pass, something broke was able to keep powering through it though where others had to slow and go very wide, got real smooth at the end thanks for the helmet, looking forward to our next event

Default well nothing is as bad as the Evo thats for sure....

I wouldnt wish anything like that on anyone but that guy and his instructor were arrogent but i dont think thats why they got into trouble. I cant wait till a dry event :-), although wet with different rims will do as well.

Default The HRE's are holding water???

What gives? Lemme guess...they designed the wheel with a indentation in the center of the inside section of the wheel, so water doesn't drain out?
