Default VIR Update : RE: Brakes and Suspension.....

well after running preety hard the last two days, Wes and I have come to the conlcusion the only things needed are Sways and some good brake pads. 99.999% of us will never need the abilities provided by a full suspension upgrade and a full brake kit. Wes and I did talk about a good brake kit which would disipate heat faster and be less susceptible to fade. So to quote AlanL's mantra, mod the nut behind the wheel not the car. More pics and videos to follow of the day after all of us recover (I just did two track days then 450 miles home)

Default What brake fluid are you using?

Did you flush the system and replace with something better? I'm about to have my brake lines replaced (with SS) and flush the system, replacing with the Motul 600. The fluid should help somewhat regarding the fade, from what I've been told...

Default Stock brake fluid and lines. The brakes were great on the track.

No fade, great bite...they really did the job well. And believe me, I was taxing the hell out of them.

I would definitely be interested in putting some Motul brake fluid in the car before my next track event. I would also like to have some pads that don't stick to the rotors or singe so quickly, as the OEM pads are good for the street, but the track burns them up pretty quickly.

SS lines will help a bit, but the brakes really don't lose their braking power. The pedal will travel further as you start to work them, but by the end of the day, once you get home the pedal travel is back to normal.

I'm sure there's some expansion in the lines that's causing the mushy feeling when you get off the track, and the SS lines is going to solve that. But the pads still are teh suck. We need beter pads, especially for the track.

Default I have been asking about pads for almost a year and the silence has been deafening.

All I keep hearing is "buy our $$$$ big brake kit" when all we need are pads.

Default You might want to try Pagid Yellows(RS19) or Blacks(RS14) for track use

The yellow are even ok for street use

Default I agree. Some tougher pads with higher temp tolerances would be perfect.

And maybe some SS lines and an upgrade in brake fluid. But other than that, it's tires and I think I'm good to go.

The rotors held up VERY nicely. Some pad deposit, but I'm hoping that stuff scrapes off over the next few weeks. Might have to bed them in again.
