Default Radar Detector- Bel 985

Hey everyone, I am curious does anybody else use this Radar Detector (Bel 985). I am borrowing it from a friend and found that it doesn't work that well. I passed by 3 cop cars the other day and it did not even give a warning. Two of the cars already had someone pulled over and the one cop car was sitting in the median w/laser, I believe. Any suggestions?

Default I would check the flux capacitor to see if it is still capacitating...

Happens to be a problem with the early models, damn things always crap out. Anyway, if that's not the case, it is possible the police cars shut their radar off, have instant on radar, or who knows what else. If in fact you know at least one of those cops had radar on and the unit did not go off, I would not put my faith in it. In fact, I wouldn't anyway. Get yourself a Valentine 1 or Passport 8500 and you won't have to ask these questions.

Default Easy to explain why it wouldn't go off in either of those situations...

If two already had people pulled over, I'm sure they wouldn't have the gun on. In the case of the laser (not sure how exactly you knew it was a laser, but anyway), if it was in fact a laser, wouldn't get picked up unless he was aiming for you and your detector was located in just the right position to pick it up. If you have a detector high on the glass, chances are you will never pick up the laser anyway since they typically aim for your front bumper and the beam is only a very small square pattern.

Default Re: Never had a problem like that with mine. Matter of fact my 985

is twice as sensitive to Ka band then my V1 ever was. The only thing i miss about the V1 was the directional finder. But i even picked up CHP planes last friday on the way to Vegas. KentukeyS4 is correct about the laser not setting it off. It would have to hit thte sensor right on the button to set off the detector. The 985 is just as good if not better than the passport and both of those in all independant test that i have have seen performed better than the V1. I got rid of my V1 before i purchased my S4 and i have noticed that i really miss the direction arrows on the V1. But my 985 is alot more sensitive to K and Ka band which the CHP use alot.
