Default A quick lap at VIR...

Finally got a lap broken down. Issue is, I have several laps on video but almost every one of them has me running into somebody and having to wait for a pass.

This lap I was uninterrupted from start to finish. 2 mins 28 secs for a rountrip of 3.3 miles. Average speed around the track is 80.2MPH with a top speed of 130+MPH on the straights.

Oh, and it was raining on this lap. You can see the rain hitting the windshield. ;-)

Anyway, I've got two versions. They are both .mp4 in order to keep the mb's down.
Low-res is 6mb, and Hi-res is 20mb. Take your pic:

Default I hope I can ask this question without it being taken the wrong way....

I really am not asking this to antagonise but as a genuine question.

I've never seen a car forum react so much to someones track day footage. Why are there so many posts and comments about it? Is it really rare for you guys to go on track days and hence people aren't familiar with this sort of thing or am I missing the X-factor that everyone else sees?

As I say I'm not attacking/flaming anyone and I commend anyone that tracks their cars as I think many performance cars are never used to their full potential. It's just I am amazed at the level of the reaction.

Maybe things are very different over this side of the pond.

Default Well, it's the US. We don't typically get to take our cars to the limits.

Definitely not on the street. Driving in general is much different in Europe vs. the US. 55 MPH speed limits, soccer moms with cellphones driving huge SUV's in the far left lane going 56 MPH, etc.

And I think it's the first time anyone has posted some track video in the B6 S4, AFAIK.

Default I've got some on-board stuff that I'll have a look at and see if it's worth posting.

The UK is booming at the moment with track days. I got my car at Easter and have only managed to get one day in so far. I'm off around Europe in a few of weeks ending up at the Nurburgring for 2.5 days so I should be able to get my fix there.

Are trackdays not a big thing over there?

Default They are, but not many take advantage of it.

There are a few members on the board that do track their cars. But you'll find that the vast majority won't ever have the opportunity to take it to a driving school. A shame...because it's soooo much fun. Oh, and you learn something too. ;-)

Default The learning part was why I did this track day so soon after getting the car.

I did plenty in the TT but I wanted to find out how the S4 handled at and past the limit. TBH this is why I'm pondering editing the video and posting it as most of the track time is me deliberately over driving, mid bend lift offs, etc and not the nice smooth driving that you normally aspire to. I really wanted to discover the cars natural reaction should the occasion ever arise on road.

It was great to be really ragged on a track with a huge run off (in most places) on a former aerodrome. I was a true hooligan for the day. I lost so much rubber! LoL :-)

Good thing I didn't wear the 19'd. That would have been a major bummer.
