about new style windshield wiper, better or not?

on the new style wiper(s), does it matter which wiper you lift up first?
on the old style you have to lift them up in a certain order. I think driver side first, then passanger but I can't remember for sure. If you don't do it this way, the larger wiper get caught on the other wiper. same when you put them back down. it's kind of like a cupboard where one door has a lip. You have to open and close same way everytime. My question is this why they went with the change, or do you still have to do it like that with the new wipers?
