S4 oil filter comes w/ an o-ring & a metal washer. What's the washer for? (wont fit drain plug)

Default No, the metal washer is about 1.5 inches in diameter. I know the rubber o-ring goes w/ the canister
top, but I'm confused about the washer.

It should fit, I got a washer with mine and it fit the drain plug no problem. Maybe they gave you the wrong one?

How long did it take for you to find the oil filter. I was begining to think the car did not have one, before I looked at the top of the block.

They probably packed the wrong washer. Filter was correct and very easy to find.
