Default Anybody Wax Their Wheels?

I'll be getting a set of Avus reps for winter and am wondering if anybody waxes their wheels. If so which wax do you use?

As these will be for winter it seems like waxing them before I put them on might help protect them and keep the dirt, brake dust, etc. off.

Any thoughts?

I've never used it, but others on the board have said Wheel Wax is great stuff. I've just waxed with P21S Carnuba - but I'm about to try Finish First, which I hear is a great synthetic primarily for the car itself.

Default Yup - it does make cleaning them easier. I use either One Grand or Meguiars #26.

I typically clean them when I have them off since I have several sets of wheels which means just once a year. While this is a lot less than you would do for the paint on the car itself, it does seem to help a lot in terms of how much easier the task will be the next time you do it.

When I take a set of wheels off, I wash them up with soap and water first and then take a cheap cleaner wax to the spots that didn't come off. I follow that with a wax job and then put them away for storage.

Default Yes. Stay away from using carnauba-based products though

Carnauba, while indeed providing some protection from the elements, actually will attract brake dust. Use a synthetic or a polymer based product instead. Same protection (actually a little more) and it helps control brake dust build up. I've had excellent results using Klasse AIO and SG. Just a quick hose down and all brake dust is gone....

Also, do a search on this topic on the Detailing forum. We've discussed this at length over there.

Good luck with whatever you decide to use. No matter what, though, using something is better than using nothing.

Default I have not yet, but I find these wheels so easy to clean as is...

The wheels on my 330Ci looked great when clean, but they had that double spoke and rather narrow gaps. Huge PITA to clean. These avua wheels, although may not be quite as nice looking, are very easy to clean.
