Default embarrased a C5 corvette today....in a station wagon!.....

on the freeway I had made a pass and had opened it up a bit - a c5 vette came on an on-ramp and flew by after I had let up - like he had something to prove - traffic clogged up a bit - I got it in 4th at about 3500-4000 rpm, about 5 car lengths behind him - traffic opened up and the lanes ahead were all clear - we both took a clear lane and I let her rev. - by the end I had gone from 5 lenght back to even with his back bumper....and then we slowed for traffic ahead - I hung out to see if he wanted another chance, he got behined me as if to look and see what the heck is it..... and then he snuck off and hid in the slow lane.

Default That is insane. He was not trying, or hit the gas way after you.

If you have the momentum (ie you are behind the vette at the same speed and gun it a couple seconds before he does), he will have a serious disadvantage.

A 350hp - 350 lb/ft 3200 lb car will walk an S4 hard.

Nice run, though.

Default the standard c5 is not that fast.....easily ran away from one in my

M3 at freewayt speeds - these were NOT zo6's. just standard models - the Zo6 and the new c6 is a diff story. - possibly Auto trans.

Default A standard C5 will beat you 10 out of 10 times with equal drivers.

Yes, they are quite fast. The C6's are going to be beasts.

Default Nice!

Pay no attention to the nay-sayers. I've done it twice. Try it from a light. They have no idea what hit them. :O))

It's just "not supposed to" happen. So you're gonna see posts like, "he was not trying...", "he wasn't using full throttle...", "he was distracted by the smell of his own farts...", whatever! Those who write those things haven't raced one yet to know. They just know what stats tell them. Several people here have beaten cars that we're "not supposed to" be able to beat, i.e. C5 Vettes, STIs, Evos, 996 Carreras, etc.

My advice to the doubters is, take your S4 out and race one of these cars just mentioned. Then come back and say what can and can't be done. You'll be surprised at what your car can do. But even if you lose, a better driver in your S4 may have done better. Some guys here have gone to the track and run a 14.1 all the way down to a 13.24 and another ran a 13.39. Driver ability. Take note that most C5 Vettes run 13.4-13.6 at the track.

Besides that, there are countless variables that will determine the winner of a race between cars this closely matched. He wasn't racing an Enzo...

Default Ease up...

I have "raced" 3 different C5 vettes, and from a light...yeah you will get the jump most of the time.

On the freeway, umm sorry, but no. Has nothing to do with driver skills, either. You both mash the gas in the best gear, and see what happens. Every time the C5 would (slowly, mind you) walk me from a roll.

I mean, come on. Look at the power to weight ratios. Those are not "butt dyno" measurements. It comes down to physics. The Vette has over 2 less lbs per hp to haul around, and suffers less power loss at the wheels.

I am talking stock S4 here.

Default I'm not bustin on you. Our experiences differ...

Your car is as stock as mine. But I wouldn't expect that everyone's car whether Vette or S4 runs exactly the same. My experiences may not be typical. Then again, by the sound of the inital post and his M3 experience post, maybe my results are. sayemthree ran the Vette in his M3, but I've raced 2 M3s and beaten one and was dead even with the other.

I understand the numbers. I got you on that. And no car is immune to the power to weight ratio. But this car sure acts like it all too often. Again, by the power/weight ratios, I should not beat an STI... It's been done twice. I shouldn't beat an Evo... It's been done once. I shouldn't beat a Vette... It's happened twice, once from a light and another time on the highway. How is that explained? Can we say that the guys weren't trying even after I stop and talk to them on a few occasions and they are amazed at how good the car runs?

Because of my experiences, I don't doubt his experience at all. That's all I'm saying. Didn't mean to offend you...
