Default better track car: 1999 Porsche 911 or 2003 Honda S2000? Read body before answering.

911 is ~$22k, had a dash fire, so entire dash has been removed. Wouldn't need to replace airbags or climate control, but would need some dash structure, instumentation, etc. Rest of the car is in very good condition, 65k miles. Would gut interior and go with fixed back bucket seats.

S2000 is ~$13k, front and rear collision damage. Needs rear bumper respray, and front clip (included in price, I think). 15k miles.

I'm just kicking the idea around.

Default I had a 2001 S2000 and loved it on the track. It's very quick.

I'd go with the S2000. Tires, brakes, and in general it will be cheaper to up keep and the car is ***** out on the track anyway.

Default The S2000 is going to be cheaper to run I think.

Brake pads, tires, maintenance, etc.

Barry does have a great point, Miata's are CHEAP.

Default Another nice thing about an S2000 is that there is a "TireTail" setup for it...

I find my hatchback to be handy for hauling stuff/tires to the track as needed. But it would be nice to have a bit more room.

The situation is even tighter or an S2000 or 911, I'm sure. I've seen a "TireTail" designed specifically for the S2000 by the guy in Oklahoma.

Check this: <a href="http://www.izoomgraphics.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_ id=9">TireTail for S2000</a>

It comes with a hitch, I think. Unfortunately (for me) there is no off-the-shelf hitch that I can use for my hatchback.

Default Are any of the wiring harnesses damaged in the 911?

I would imagine that's where a dash fire would originate, so the question is...how bad is the damage to the wiring harnesses? Could lead to some interesting quirks down the road, even if you manage to repair them.

My inclination is to go with the 911. A little more power on tap, and hopefully it's a hardtop (not crazy about the idea of a convert for a track car).
