Default O5' S4 with 2600 miles is burning oil?

I only have 2600 miles on it and had to add 1+ quart of oil. This doesn't seem right for a new car. I don't drive it very hard at all and followed recomended break in procedures. This also means it was really low for a while.

Is this normal? Thoughts?

Thanks,

Matt (tonybah)

Default Normal early in life

Mine used a quart in the first 1200 miles and has used virtually nothing since. I was **** and was checking it every few days after the first occurrence, but my consumption now is essentially zero. Keep an eye on it, obviously, but I would bet it won't recur.

Default Shouldn't the low oil light come on before it becomes an issue?

Do we really need to check our oil via the dipstick that often?

Mine came on a few months back. I was exactly one quart low--no biggie.

exactly. My light came on yesterday, checked it today. The oil level was only half way up the lower plastic orange marker on the dipstick. seems very very low. Could I have done any damage driving around with my oil so low?

I wouldn't have driven it if the oil light came on earlier but it didn't. I just came on yesterday.

Default This is the noob question of the month(every month). It is normal, but what does it indicate?

Many s4 owners, especially those who followed the Audi (baby the engine) break in technique, have experienced oil consumption during the first 5k miles. Some have reported diminished oil consumption as time went on, some not. Audi, as well as many other manufacturers, consider the consumption of 1 qt of oil/1K miles to be NORMAL??? Oil is cheap, but what does it indicate? The oil is either leaking or being burned in piston ring blow-by. I don't believe it is leaking. This means you piston rings are not(and may never be )completely seated possibly due to under agressive driving during the first 1K miles. I suggest that you start doing some WOTs to the redline ASAP. MAYBE??? you can still get the piston rings to seat better. ABOVE ALL, do not change the oil to synthetic before 5K miles. At this point you need some wear to help the rings to seat.

Nonsense! I drove mine hard from day 1 and have had ZERO oil consumption (12K miles)
