Just finished Bondurant's book on High Performance Driving
It was a good read. I wasn't expecting an overview of getting into racing, but more technical aspects of driving on a track (or street). It gives you a very quick synopsis on how to get into racing (or not... for it tries to set you straight throughout!), and I found chapter 8 to be extremely useful and reread it a couple of times ("getting to know the road" about lines, apex area, smoothness, etc)
I noticed a lot of what it was trying to teach you is pretty intuitive, but like AlanL always reminded me and others, smoothness is key. Bondurant does the same. He terms those who "look fast" as "stab n steer" drivers...who could be a lot faster if they could just be smooth.
All in all, good read. The greatest message (at least to me) is that experience is key (via practice). So now, I'm very excited about taking karting classes at Russell's school soemtime this month...and hopefully participate in some amateur racing with Bdaddy.
Norcal guys (Ms. Oil, Brooks, Jeff, and whoever else joins us in San Jose, Tuesday night at 7pm at the Kings Head Pub Restaurant/Bar in Campbell)...will look forward to talking more about school etc.
See you guys there.
