DC peeps - interesting read.....
I took my S6 to Rockville Porsche Audi for the 50 k service and to have them look at 3 leaks. The car should have been ready on Tuesday. Wasn't ready, "it'll be ready by noon on Wednesday". I called at 1 Wednesday "it's on a test drive, I'll call you in 30 minutes." I call back at 4, "Yep, your car is ready, sorry I didn't call you." Another service advisor calls at 6 "your car is not ready yet - well, it might be ready but we don't know, call back tomorrow."
Thursday I come to pick up the car and they bring it to me covered in snow with a little porthole cleared in the windshield. The out mileage is wrong on the service order (by about 10 miles). They addressed 1 oil leak and made no mention on the work order about the other 2, but the SA said "nothing was found."
The SA also told me that 15w40 was the correct oil for all Audis except 1.8s. General manager told me that they use Kendall motor oil.
Kendall informs me that 15w40 is not suitable for gasoline engines. AoA tells me that only 5w30 or 5w40 should be used. The GM at Rockville disagreed and showed me a "service letter" that had a chart of oils on it.
He conveniently overlooked the disclaimer on the bottom that says "API SL must only be used if approved oils are unavailable." 15w40 is an SL oil.
When I pointed this out to him he had the ***** to say "the approved oils are unavailable, we only have 15w40 in bulk."
This was an unauthorized synopsis, but I have been following this story, as my dealer also used to use this same weight of oil (if not the same brand) then they switched over to 10w-30 for all Audi applications, even though no modern Audi calls for either 15w-40 or 10w-30 in the owners manual. This has implications for many of us, as it seems there are more than a few Audi dealers out there using whatever cheap crap oil they can find for $1 a gallon on our cars for the "free" oil changes under the warranty. The curious thing is if AoA will step in due to all the oil related issues they and VWoA have had in the recent past.
If you used those oils, you would VOID your warranty, apparently the dealer can use whatever crap they feel like and its OK...or not. We'll have to wait and see the outcome.
I have yet to consistently hear anything good about HBL.
Criswell is pretty good if you're on that side of the universe.....
