First 5k service done...
...on the TSB engine whine, was told my build # is not in the range on the TSB. They said the power steering fluid was low, causing the noise. They topped it off. We'll see how that does.
...on the squeeky seat, not able to reproduce the noise, although the mechanic isn't 260lbs like me. I might just have to hit the entire seat underside with WD40.
...there was a recall of some sort which was taken care of. Something to do with TSB? I'll get more info on that. I think it was a computer reprogram of some sort.
Everything else checked out AoK. The loaner A6 is a joy to drive, although I miss my 4.2 already!

Many owners NOT in the vin range have reported the whine. If it persists
have them perform the tsb anyway. Others have done so. BTW, my car had the whine and the tsb was done. The whine is still there but now at a different rpm and not as loud. It goes away in a min . BTW, check your PS fluid often. TSB says the PS fluid leve should be 10 mms ABOVE the max line.

I think the recall was the after-run pump. That's a no brainer.
As for the seat, I know exactly what your talking about. Just move the receptacle around and it should get better. You may want to take some armor all and get the area nice and juiced up (Quiet Eric and Sia!) and that might take care of the nuisance.
As for the TSB engine noise, that's interesting. I know that Audi did make a repair to the idle roller somewhere along the 04 build range. And most 05's are not within the range, in fact, I'm sure none of them are. But I may be wrong.
Noise very well could have been PS fluid. These s4's are well known to have the fluid sucked out for no apparent reason. It's a closed system, weird!!!
One other note about the whine. We do have a PTO that is driven by straight gears, it very well could be that your hearing the PTO straight gear whine until the oil gets up to temp. For me, that is one of the great things about this engine. It sounds so mechanical and mean. Very high tuned. It is, afterall, a 40 valve V-8!! ;-)
