Default 2004 S4 : Do I need Extended Warranty?

I called the dealer and found out the extended warranty up to 4yr/100K is little over $3K.
Should I get it?
I had 1999 A4 2.8 before and it had some problems when it reached 80K miles.
Gimme some advice please.

Default if you are going to purchase one...get the factory extended while you still can

aftermarket extended warranties are cheaper but tend not to cover as much, may not pay dealerships labor rate (leaving you to pay the labor difference) or will install used or reman parts on your car depending on the policy you purchase. In other words you get what you pay for. Also since the B6 isnt the most reliable car (yes I realize the B5 isnt either) you will be happy you have the warranty when you start having motor issues, a/c, susp, p/s etc after the factory 4 year 50k expires...just my 2 cents!

Default That's pretty high

I was offered an extended warranty on my 04 at $2700. I negotiated it down to $2200.

Default Depends... some of here don't see ourselves married to our cars.. others want to keep the B6

for as long as they can. Personally, I've realized that 50K/4yr will be about enough for me.

Default Where you at now? Where you going to be in 2 years?

What's your present mileage? What's your projected mileage in 2008 (two years away)?

Seems like an awful lot for 2 added years of coverage (total of 4 years of ownership). If it was 4 added years from now, might be different.

What's covered? Things you're practically guaranteed to be needing as you approach 4 years / 100K miles;

- Brakes (prob. front rotors)
- Shocks
- Tires (a few sets)
- Water pump
- Battery
- Maybe: timing chain and/or tensioners
- Clutch
