Major problems with a friends S4. Went into Limp Mode/and started accelerating by it self.
We were normally cruising along, all of a sudden car pops up with all the errors codes on the cluster. Traction Control/Check Engine etc. Car is immediately limited to 3k rpm and becomes extremely slow. We decided after about 20 minutes to shut it off (we didnt want to risk getting stranded by shutting the motor off immediately) and restart the car. It took a good 5 seconds of hearing the alternator spin up till finally the car back, all was ok for about 1 minute and back into limp mode. We finally got to our destination and parked it for a few hours.. Fast forwarding to later in the day, we hop it, takes a few seconds again to start up, and this time, only the check engine light, no limp mode. This is where the scariest part happened, as the car idled, the rev's continually increased on idle. The car was literally idling at 1500 rpm then raising the RPMS electronically with NO USER intervention up to 2500 rpm and then immediately dropping it back to 1500. This was a continous motion, 1500-2500, it even accured when the car was in gear which was the scariest part, as we almost rear-ended someone sitting in traffic. In addition to the rev's rising, in the passenger seat I could hear a slight buzzing, it sounded like a hard-drive or something clicking away continually working. We don't know what the hell was happening, but it seemed it was trying to figure out whats wrong or rebotting. Finally, we shut the car off again after about an hr of the revs increasing and dropping, restarted the engine and everything was back to normal with no error codes etc.
Anyone have any idea what the hell is going on? I know im personally never purchasing another Audi, nor is he
Cel or no cel, the idle problems would be enough for me not to have risked driving the car.
BTW- is it a tip?
