Default I know the factory recommends it but no one here does it. I'm thinking about keeping my oil in for..

the full 10,000 miles. It's Motul E-tech 0W-40, so it's a very good oil that was intended for severe use and long drain intervals. I just think maybe we are wasting time and money changing out high-quality synthetic oils at only 5,000 miles. Good idea to keep it in that long or should I just change it. If Audi didn't pay for the oil changes I wonder if it would still be 10K intervals. In europe I beleive they do oil changes every 10-25,000.

Default I have seen Castrol, Mobil1 and Motul come out after 5k miles and every single one of them loooks...

dirty. I can only imagine what they would look after 10k miles. Also talking about Europe, they have the same oil interval on the same cars we do, except theirs is in KM not miles. If you plan on "driving" this car, do it every 5k miles, your car will thank you. Otherwise go by the book. An oil change is a very cheap way to save your self money in the long run.

Default 5k is ideal but in actujalitiy the viscous of todays synthetics do an excellent job of suspending

imputities. I wouldnt do it but I guess it's fine.

I do it at 10k. Previous cars have gone as long as 12k. I also lease.

Default I do it every 5k, though this isn't necessary (as you've *determined*). [Edit to remove "discerned"]

The oil drain intervals given by the vehicle manufacturers (10K in our case) are for what is called "normal service" using dino juice. Normal service is defined as the engine at normal operating temperature, at highway speeds, and in a dust free environment. Stop and go, city driving, trips of less than 10 miles, or extreme heat or cold puts the oil change interval into the "severe service" category, which is 3000 miles for most vehicles. Synthetics can be run two to three times the mileage of petroleum oils with no problems. They do not react to combustion and combustion by-products to the extent that the dead dinosaur juice does. So, technically, it would be good to do an oil change between 6 and 9k using synthetic in "severe service" situations. Obviously, 10k is not a stretch.

Default Depends on how quick that 10k miles comes...if...

you're talking upwards of a year, I would say don't do it. Actually, I guess I'd say don't do it anyway...

Default Since I lease, I also let the oil in for 10K.

Any future problems, which I doubt will occur, are on Audi. Originally, Mobil 1 was touting 25K mile oil changes. So, 10K would be very conservative. However, that being said, my local mechanic said he has seen sludge build up at 7.5K in a Mercedes using synthetic. He didn't specify the brand of oil .
