Poll: Like or dislike S4 drive-by-wire throttle?
D-
The DBW behavior makes that era pale in comparison, as it is a designed-in programming issue that might give you XX amount of throttle at XX pedal travel, or you might not. Or maybe later. You never can tell. And it's designed to behave that way, according to Audi.
Yep, Unintended Accelleration (or any number of fun surprises) by design.

Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
I hadn't stalled a car at an intersection in 30+ years until I got my '04 manual. That was my 9th Audi, all manuals, and every car I'd owned since I was 18 was a stick. So it's not like I can't drive one. I stalled a few times, and fried the clutch more than a few times. I simply never knew what the engine was going to do in response to throttle input.
My dealer never did take care of it. I asked repeatedly to have the throttle re-programmed, but was told the car was VAG'ing OK so Audi wouldn't pay for it. Finally, they said come on in and we'll do it anyway. When I did, there was the exact clone of my car sitting on their lot - with a tip. I drove the tip home, and haven't regretted it.
