Paging all B6ers who have had valve problems with their motors.
Did any of your engine woes initially manifest themselves as leaky valve covers, or was it just "boom", broken valve spring? Just curious.

Did you buy new? Reason I ask is because leaky valve cover(s) shouldn't be happening.
Maybe the valve covers were removed at some earlier time to address a valve problem that eventually resulted in your busted valve springs/guides.
Other than that, I don't think oil seepage at valve covers would indicate a mechanical problem with the valves.

I bought new. Preliminary word from dealer is that its valve covers.
Noticed oil on trans and rear crank. Looks like it worked its way down from above. I observed all of this and brought it to the dealers attention. Car runs fine, just leaks oil. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh, so your busted valves was a hypothetical question. I thought it happened to you...
As for valve covers leaking, that can happen, but it's usually minor seepage, not running down onto manifolds and trans housing. You probably got a bad orig seal at factory.

Mine ran fine(25K miles) until flashed check engine light w/ symptoms
exactly like a coil pack failure.Upon restart it ran fine but misfired under load at 5K rpm. Audi had dealer rebuild engine w/ new parts - just complete - and I have the exact same symptoms as I had 3 months ago.Over $3000 in parts + god knows how much labor - have now asked for complete engine ASAP or buyback - expect to make lawyers rich soon!!
