Self healing
A week ago I was driving along in my 2004 S4 cabriolet and let a tailgating Ahole go by, slamed the clutch and threww into 2nd gear, wheeeeh......... rev to the max , no go. Clutch gone. Make it the few miles home on a friday night and take the car, still slipping ,on sat. am into dealer. Monday get a call from service saying that the car has been checked out and is funtioning as designed. I go down tuesday am and drive with the head tech, care perfectly normal. he says the car has a self adjusting cluch, it repaired itself over the weekend in the parking lot.Any views??

yes and no. We have a hydrolic clutch. This means as it wears it adjusts itself instateneously
the fact it didnt adjust right away makes me wonder if you have a bad cylinder or it got hung up on sonething.

Be careful, not trying to scare you
Had the clutch spin a few times under hard acceleration at the track, reset and worked fine.
You might have damaged the rear main gearbox seal under hard driving allowing gear oil to get on the clutch causing it to slip/spin. Was my downfall as my seal completely went, slipped the clutch yet allowed me to drive home 120mi. A week later new gearbox and clutch. If it was minor the gearoil may have just been burned off allowing it to work again.
