Has anyone tried to improve the stock exhaust tone by playing with the vacuum actuated mufflers?

Default I believe only the '04's had this. And if it works anything like the R32
it has been proven on that car to add little or no power.

Default it changes sound at idle and lower rpms.
iirc it added a little more poer down low, but nothing significant (1-2hp)

just pinch the line . they will stay open all the time

I did it a couple years ago, just because I could...doesn't do much, you won't notice the diff.

Default Definitely changes low rpm sound. Here's a test for anyone considering doing this...
Back your car into the garage with and without flap mod. You'll notice the car is MUCH bassier with the mod done.

Default Some owners with 05 also have reported having the flaps
BTW, I closed mine off by blocking the line with a metal screw. I have noticed no difference in sound or performance. The flaps disappeared mid 04 production and magically reappeared in some 05 cars.
