Default Exhaust Question

I just want to confirm...
As i have a chipped audi a4 1.8T quuattro and i will be getting a FMIC aswell.. will it be best for me to get a 3 inch exhaust system (turbo back of course) orrrr a 2.5 inch system??
I've heard good and bad things about both and i just want to know straight out which one would be best for my car!
So far i have decided to go turbo dump pipe, high flow cat (with fire ring) all mandrel bent in mild steel and custom stainless steel mufflers but i havent decided what size piping is best yet... any advice would be appreciated.
cheers guys

Default DEFINATELY 3" - I had a 2.5" system - and just had it ripped out for for a 3" system

And make sure you **** off the stock cat and get a hi flo unit under the car. The stock Cat is a cork.

3" is a BIG improvment of 2.5" - I can say this as I have actually now had both.

Default Just further to this:

I had a CAT back 2.5" system for about a year - it was good (much better than stock) - but the real improvement in throttle response and top end came from changing over to turbo back and 3" with a hi flo cat under the car.

My advice: Dont waste your money like I did- do it properly the first time and get 3".

Default He wont need a ECU remap unless his car is DBW

Even then he doesnt need an ECU re-map.

his worst case scenario if he is Drive By wire (like ur RS4) is that his computer will throw a CEL error. But given NONE of the B5 A4's are DBW in Australia - its not an issue.

Default What ! are you crazy

of course he'll need a remap. His WOT works off a fixed map. DBW or NonDBW.

on my 01 A4 TQ (180hp), i installed a Milltek Downpipe (along with the exhuast). I had to uninstall it, as it dropped hp and ran lean at WOT. I was lucky enough to dyno before and after every mod.

You dont need a remmapif your doing the middle and rear exhaust, as the flow rate change is within the spec, but as soon as you change the DP, and especially if you de-cat, screwed, remap needed. Else, major engine damage awaiting, not to mention marginal peformance.

Better he learns now. But then you ask the hard question, who can remap in AU. Start with Lucus and his GIAC relationship.

Default Do you have any clue at all?

Air / Fuel is determined by the Mass air flow meter detecting the amount of air coming into the engine, which the ECU reads and adds the correct amount of fuel.

Tell me this? How are all the Audi's running around with after market exhausts not pinging? Because I can tell you they all certainly dont have remapped ECU's.

And why does my own car register a perfect air/ful curve on the dyno? I havent had my ECU remapped for my exhaust!

Its this sort of BS that causes problems and puts uncertainty in peoples minds - just do a search on exhausts and that will confirm what I have told you.

Well depends on chip to start with.

But with our chips we have never needed to remap for exhaust.

This all comes down to how many modification are actually done to the chip to start with.

Some chips on market have very minimal parameter changes just to give you some more power.
Some chips have a lot of work don to them and are virtually a re-write of the code.

Default Re: HAHAHA oh my god!

what the hell should i do now....
split decision and i dont have a clue whos right hahaha
Maybe i should just call audi here in perth they might be able to tell me whether i will need an ECU re map. Although none of the exhaust places (even the one who does the exhausts for audi here in perth) have said anything about re-mappinbg me ECU....
so what do i do now?
