Default S4 Question to owners

I am looking to buy a B5 S4. Assuming that the car has been serviced and well looked after, are there inherent reliability, mechanical problems for a 80k mileage car? I am close to fanatical when it comes to issues like this. So I would rather be disapppointed now (before buying) than discover my new pride and joy turns out to be lemon. Also, any tips and advice will be appreciated on this matter.

Default make sure the timing belt has been changed, along with water pump and thermostat.

it needed it around the 70k marker, so just be sure and check it out. as far as the ko3's, that is always going to be an issue, but nothing that cannot be fixed. all in all try and see about the timing belt, the thing will snap with out warning and then if you skip timing, you have bent valves. besides that the cars are killer, i own two of them.

What is the issue with the k03? I thought they are pretty reliable. Also I thought timing belt change is at 80k. In fact, I am organising to inspect one that has already done 82k and has not had it's 80k service (which I assumed included timing belt replacement).

Default S4's have K04 not K03...

I just traded my B5 A4TQ and it is due for a timing belt service approx $1500. From memory it's 4 years or 100k klms. Be very careful buying a 4 year old car. Mine needed timing belt, tyres, clutch, suspension. $8K worth of work in 12 months. I didn't neglect my car, it even had mid service oil changes. It's just at 4 years old these things need a lot of work.

In a week I take delivery of my new B6 A4TQ S-Line Avant. Got to love run out deals.

Default i know that under the hood it says 75,000 miles, but it is really an

issue with the water pump. trust me on this one, i just had mine go out, therefore skips time just for a second and bends a valve or two. i have known of several other cases as well.....i feel now, better to be safe than sorry. but at least after all of this, i will have a beast on my hands. rs4 fast. oh, and if you ask the dealership about the tb, the will say do it at like 110k.

Default my s4 came with ko3's and now will have the ko4's, bc i just blew one of them along with some other

i take great care of my car, but it is still a sports car which things go wrong after time.

RS4's have K04's S4 have K03's...agree with comment about Timing Belt..just do it ;-)

try and buy a late model S4, preferably the facelift S4. The early S4's had turbo plumbing issues with the oil feed i'm told.
