1000km "service"

1000km "service"
I am about to take delivery of a new A4 B6 and really concerned about the first service. I understand that they do not actually do anything apart from inspecting the car. ie no oil change, in fact up to 15,000km!
How is this possible? I mean, do Audi engines come "clean" from the factory? I had Hondas previously and the 1000km service includes replacing the oil as new engines may contain bits and pieces of metal that needs to be flushed out. Not needing that service just means that the Audi engines does not contain that sort of junk when they leave the factory.
Can someone enlighten me?
