Default oil changes

is is possible to change the oil at home? Does that whole underside panel need to be removed to get access to the drain plug and oil filter? I looked around under the car and could not find the drian plug or filter.

You have to unscrew the belly pan. There are like 6 screws.

Buy an oil extractor, they work great and you do not need to go under the care. Removes just as much oil. I get ~9.5 Quarts with it

Remove all of the plastic panels, and you'll see the oil pan towards the front of the car. Make sure you have something big enough to catch 9 quarts of oil, it comes out fast. The filter is right smack on top of the engine, underneath the panel behind your runners.

Default no removal of the pan if you pump the oil out the dipstick with a

oil pump such as Griots - it is soooo easy - no mess, no jacking car, no crawling under, no spilling oil. change oil in 10 minutes from under the hood. I usually flush out with 1/4 of cheap min oil - after pumping out the old oil - out in the cheap oil and pump again till you get clean oil. I do this in between dealer free changes.

http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=10122</a

Seems like a good product/idea - How do you dispose of the oil?

Default I put it in 2 gallon Tide bottles and my city trash service picks it up for

recycling on regular trash day. if you dont have pick up - most areas have places you can drop it off at to be recycled.

thanks. I receive their catalogue, but was hesitant about the product's ability to remove all oil. How does it perform with regards to removing all of the oil?

Default Yes, I use one also...works great...

No way I'm going to crawl around and wrestle a 3 x 3 plastic sheet with its multiple retaining bolts every oil change...with the car needing to be jacked up each time. If the car was up on a lift, that would be different.

I think Audi could have provided a smaller(cutout) section to access oil drain plug.

Oil extractors are even mentioned in Audi service manual...

It will remove al oil. First, you know your capacity, so that much needs to come out into extractor container, minus a half quart or so in the oil filter.

I first used mine on another car, worked what I thought was all the oil out, and then removed the oil drain plug just to be sure. Nothing was left in the oil pan, it got it all.

At the very end of oil extraction, once I see air starting to be sucked up, I reposition the tube slightly and pump the extractor again in order to get any small addtl amount of oil left.
