V10 Clarification for the S6 and proposed RS6.
Most of us have already seen the impending S6 with the 450bhp 5.2L V10. It looks like one hell of a car, but I think I'll be content with my B7 S4 for another 2.5 years until (hopefully) the new RS6 comes around. I really want the RS6 to be my next car, but Audi has not yet approved it for production. The major reason according to two different and equally credible sources is that they are having trouble fitting the upgraded 550bhp 5.5L V10 under the hood. I hope Audi can work out the kinks and be selling this car by mid-2008, but if I go by what the S6 is going to cost the RS6 will realistically be in the 110K range. I guess I'd better start saving now.

New RS 6 will be $90-95K fully optioned, not $110K
And yes, the fully optioned price of $90K-95K will include the gas guzzler tax (which the car may or may not have if it has hybrid technology-which is a strong possibility). Without hybrid technology, the new RS 6 will definitely have a gas guzzler tax. The new S6 will be $80K-85K fully optioned including gas guzzler tax. FWIW, the normally aspirated, high revving 550 hp 5.5L FSI V10 is the same exact size size and weight with the same exact space efficiency as the 420 hp (not 450 hp like the S8) lower revving (7,000 or 7,200 RPM redline), normally aspirated 5.2L FSI V10 in the S6. Therefore, at this point, Audi should have no difficulty whatsoever fitting the 550 hp 5.5L FSI V10 (again, with high revving capabilities i.e. 9,000-9,500 RPM, normal aspiration and either 420, 428 or 435 lbs/ft of torque) in the engine bay of the new RS 6.

Sorry Tim, but nothing Audi makes is anywhere near capable of revving to 9000+ RPM.
The strokes are all way too long.
9500 RPM out of the current V-10's is 115% of Formula 1 piston speed. The only way to lower the piston speed is to lower the stroke which lowers the displacement.
Not gonna happen ANY time soon.

Please be aware, the V10 in the S8 is rated at 450HP while the V10 in the S6...
