Default Hurricane survivor needs help.... My A4 was totalled! Crushed to a scant 24 inches tall!

my beloved 1999.5 A4 1.8T was crushed by a 4.5ft in diameter live oak tree during the hurricane in Lousisiana.... Such a shame, the car was in FLAWLESS condition, with under 40k miles on it. Washed and waxed once a week. (sigh)... I will upload pics of it soon. Hard to believe...the car looks like a pancake.

Now I'm looking at using the insurance money to purchase a 2006 S-line, which I'm very excited about, but money's pretty tight. I'm in medical school and have limited funds...

Thus, I want to make sure I'm getting a good deal. Hope you guys can let me know how this sounds...

I'm dealing on a 2006 black on black A4, 2 wheel drive, 6sp manual, with premium, sunroof, S-line, and tech (without bluetooth) packages. The MSRP is 35k and some change. The dealer, however, will only give me $500 off the sticker price for the car.

Audi, additionally, is giving a $1000 to anyone who lost an audi in the hurricane, but still...i think that the dealer should be taking more off of the car. They claim that the car is in such high demand, they really wouldn't have to take any money off at all...

I plan on doing a premier purchase, as I take exquisite care of my vehicles, and don't drive much at all either.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As well as any dealers out there that might want to cut a hurricane evaccuee a deal!

thanks
nick

Default Crushed to a scant 24 inches tall!

I would estimate about $3.5K total profit in that car less the delivery prep.($275 or so) A dealer should step up for about $1,000 to $1,500 under the circumstances described.

Audi money and Dealer money are two completely different bed pans- contents of each should not be mixed.

Default words from quattroport's wife...

nick, this is quattroport's wife (read: don't blame quattroport). you're an idiot. why in god's name are you buying a new car as a medical student, especially when you don't drive much? "funds are tight..." boo hoo. you should be poor, wallowing in your misery and eating saltines and peanut butter like the rest of us did. i hope you're doing great in med school because you're going to need to match in neurosurgery to pay for your car fetish and your 100k's in loans. this new A4 is just a gateway car to more expensive automotive addictions. but as it were, should you indeed go through with this lunacy, why would you buy a front wheel drive audi? get the quattro. also, you should be able to buy this for $500-1000 over invoice from somebody.

Default I would not take that deal.

AoA is providing ~$2k (+/-) back to the dealer on MY05.5s (B7), and even more on 05s (B6).

dealer contribution and whatever proceeds from AoA toward hurricane replacement would be on top of that. '05s are sold out in the northeast - that car should be at or possibly below invoice with all the incentives you may qualify for.

good luck.

thanks...although the car in question IS a 2006...are you aware of any promotions that the dealer is receiving on 06's?

Default not aware of any incentives on 06s

but it's not uncommon for some dealers to be more aggressive than $500 off sticker at this time of year.

Default She has a point though....

If you have little to no income as a full-time student and money is tight you have no business buying a $35K car. How will you make payments, student loans?

Just another (juris) doctor's advice ;-)

nor is it polite to question another man's finances, unless one has some type of personal stake in them.

FYI, I'm doing just fine...but I insist on getting the best deal I can on all of my expenses.
