This thing looked decked out. All black with what looked like 20% tints all around. Looked a little aftermarkety, too. I could tell he was itching to race me all the way down Pershing by LAX Airport. I drive an A4 3.2. Mine is all black with dark 20% tints all around as well.

In any case. We hit a light and it seemed this was the moment he was waiting for. I put the transmission into "S" and come green we both punched it.

I'd never pushed my car this hard before so it was quite a thrill. So throaty and i had my foot to the ground the whole time. But this guys little golf was fast. I mean he got a nose on me and kept it that way all the way till we had to stop because of cars in our way. He got the nose out from the get go because I was hesitatant at 1st if he was really intending to race me. I had my girlfriend in the car and I know she hates this "testosterone, typical guy ****" as she puts it. But once I heard his RPMs skyrocket and saw him launch, I wasn't going to sit there and let him smoke me. Floored he didn't gain an inch after that initial head start he got from my hesitation.... but then again... I didn't gain either. We stayed neck and neck till the end. (well.technically he "won" since he did get the nose out in front of me)

So I'm guessin those R32's are pretty decked out for it to compete with the 3.2

Naturally, my girlfriend was pissed for "scaring" her and I was a little bummed for not smoking this guy. I'm sure my car weighed twice his but I also assume I have twice the engine. But than again I know nothing about these VW Golf R32's.

Someone tell me why this happened. I have a bruised ego to nurse.

 

Seems the R32 has pretty much an identical engine to mine. 3.2

You learn something new... yadda yadda.

His looked "upgraded". Mine is stock.

OK So I won't totally cry myself to sleep then. Same engine, much lighter car. It could have been worse.

Your thoughts? (besides what I suspect will be comments to the effect of "well, basically, you suck.") :P

You're in L.A., driving a VERY nice ride WITH your girlfriend in the passenger seat and you're worrying about not winning a street race? How about nursing your brain! Seriously, you've got the girl AND the nice ride - Pal, you've WON! Worry more about staying healthy, keeping the girl happy, and making sure that the ride stays clean and in good condition and you'll be a winner all of the time.

 

The R32's 3.2L is a VR6 variant shared by the A3, Jetta IV, Touareg, and Phaeton. There's a new 3.6L model of the VW engine that puts out 280HP that'll be in the new Passat and V6 Touareg.

The 3.2L FSI in the A4 and A6 are not related.

 

Those R32's are fast little cars. You've got a few HP on him but he weighs about 400 lbs less (not including your girlfriend, ha ha! ) and they only come in manual transmission.

Horsepower : 240 hp @ 6250 rpm
Torque : 236 lb-ft @ 2800 rpm
Redline : 7000 rpm
0-60 mph : 5.9 sec.
0-¼ mile : 14.6 sec @ 97.6 mph

 

Shoulda bought a 2.0T and tweaked it... R32s are no trouble
