New Lexus IS250 AWD vs. A4 2.0T Quattro
Today Lexus announced pricing on their new IS series of cars. A confession - I am a long-time Lexus owner, follower, believer; in addition to my `05.5 A4 2.0T Quattro, I also own an `04 SC430 and an `04 GX470. I purchased my A4 this past August because I needed a "daily commuter", and I wanted a car that had style, was economical on gas, and had all-wheel drive. At the time I was well aware that Lexus was preparing to launch a new series of IS cars, that included an all-wheel drive version. In brief, my A4, which is equipped with leather, heated front/rear seats, homelink, moonroof, satellite radio, tiptronic, sport suspension, headlight washers, clear bra, and wheel protection, cost me (with taxes and tags) $34,400. If I had waited for a comparably-equipped IS250 AWD, it would have cost me close to $41,000, out the door (MSRP for the IS250 AWD is just under $35,000).
In my opinion, not only is the A4 a great bargain when compared to its competitors, it's also proving to be a darn good car.

I went to a lexus drive event - and was very impressed with both of their vehicles (the 250 AND the 350) HOWEVER... for the price, you cannot beat the overall value of an A4 2.0QMT - get it with the sport susp and 18" summer-only tires and for another $599 do the ECU flash and lexus is no longer the self-proclaimed "Class Leader" with the price for the 350 being where it is - I can't see it being in the same class as the 2.0 A4.

Lexus has announced pricing for their new IS range of sport sedans. The range starts with the Lexus IS 250 with the manual transmission starting at $29,990. Lexus claims the new IS starts with $5000 in additional standard equipment over the previous model but with only a $255 increase in MSRP. The next level is the IS 250 with six-speed automatic transmission. The automatic IS will start at $31,160, with the transmission offering the bespoke manumatic functionality. Next up is the AWD IS 250, starting at $34,285; this price includes a perforated leather-trimmed interior upgrade with heated and ventilated front seats and wood trim. The fastest IS, the IS 350 starts at $35,440. That is not an excellent value considering the 306 horsepower under the hood. While this author is an admitted Lexus fan, we wonder about the popularity of these new sports sedans. They do not have the same aura of driving purposefulness that oozes from the BMW 3-series. Perhaps the IS is more for the enthusiast who sees their sports sedan purchase as more of a long-term investment than a lustful affair with a driving machine? Regardless, this pricing is very attractive, and we wonder how the Lexus stacks up against the BMW. Lexus are you listening?

Re: the lexus also has standard smart key, 10way power seats and a host of other features.
I think the Lexus is a better value for what you get. But when it goes on sale next week, there will be no deals to be had for a long time. Bringing it more in line with the A4's inflated pricing.
