Default BMW dealer brochure says xDrive is more advanced than quattro

page 89 (Audi comparo)
http://autospies.com/images/pdfs/BMWE90guide.pdf

"More advanced xDrive AWD system, vs.
Audi's older-concept quattro system"

Now can comeone explain what is more advanced in xDrive? I am no expert and I know that xDrive is obviously newer system, but what makes them state this?

No this is not the point. If you open the .pdf they list the specific 'advantages' of 330xi and then list 'advantages' of A4. The xDrive is a bullet in the advantages of 330xi.

Like I said I know there are people here with the technical knowldedge of both systems probably and discuss this claim. Yes 'better' is subjective but I wonder what they have to back it up?

Both sides will slant the results to themselves. I'm not saying witch is better.

Default i believe xdrive is electronic while quattro is all mechanical

they're both good systems, but i'd never say xdrive is a better system...i'd say they're both competent systems

Default I just priced out the 325Xi wagon...

...set up as close to the A4 Avant as possible. (I should have mine next week). The BMW comes in at a retail of $43,440. My Avant retails for just over $38K. For another $5K the BMW system would have to an awful lot better...

xDrive has a rear bias from the start as some of us are starting to mod toward.

Default What they really mean is more complicated...

I have a 2002 325xiT. Although the x-drive is a newer version of the system on my car, they are still relying heavily on braking and throttle control albeit with a variable cluch now. I haven't driven one with the xdrive but I can say that the torsen is superior to the system on my car. BMW allowed some wheel slippage before the system kicks in and although "thrilling" it's really not what you want in extremely variable traction situations. Quattro is much more stable and predictable.

Having said that, I'll be trying both the A4 and 325xiT as I'm in the market for a new car next year. Right now the edge goes to Audi because of the hideous job BMW's done to the interior, (particularly since I want the NAV) of an otherwise fine car. I'll give the i-drive a fair shake but my gut tells me it's too complicated for safe driving.
